润滑内燃机中的摩擦零件，是为了保证内燃机正常可靠地工作，并对延长内燃机的寿命有着决定性的意义。 润滑系统的功用为： 1．向摩擦零件供给干净的、具有一定粘度的滑油，保持两相对运动零件的液体摩擦，避免干摩擦，减少磨损并降低消耗在摩擦上的功率。 2．带走摩擦时产生的热量和金属屑。 3．在某些柴油机中还有用滑油冷却活塞的任务。 在内燃机中需要润滑的主要零件有：曲轴的主轴颈和曲柄销，活塞和汽缸，凸轮轴承及凸轮，传动轴轴承及齿轮等等。
